Pink October in Pilsen: Awareness lecture on breast cancer prevention

On Monday 30 October, a lecture on breast cancer prevention was held at the Pilsen headquarters. This event was part of an awareness campaign dedicated to the fight against breast cancer, which is known worldwide as "Pink October". It was a great honour for us to welcome the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer, who prepared not only an informative but also an emotional lecture for our employees.

The main speaker was Štepánka Pokorná, Director of the Aliance žen s rakovinou prsu. In her presentation she discussed basic facts about this insidious disease and emphasized the importance of prevention. Breast cancer is the second most common type of cancer in women, and that early detection plays a crucial role in successful treatment. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about risk factors that can increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer, as well as the importance of a healthy lifestyle and regular screening.

An important component was instruction on how and when to properly perform a self-examination by palpation. There was also a list of specific steps that every woman can incorporate into her life to prevent it. An interesting part of the lecture was the practice of self-examination on a phantom model, where the participants could feel what the findings might look like.

An emotional moment of the lecture was an inspiring speech by Jindra Mařincová, who is a cured cancer patient. Jindra shared her personal story of battling breast cancer and presented herself as living proof that cancer can be overcome. Her courage, strength and positive attitude were an inspiration to all in attendance.

Thank you to the Alliance of Women with Breast Cancer and Jindra Mařinc for their invaluable work and sharing their experiences.
