The BEMU unit combines all the features of RegioPanter products - i.e. wide entrance doors and a fully passable interior without internal doors allow fast and smooth passenger movement in stations, wheelchair accessible boarding with pull-out steps for different platform heights.
Built-in battery capacity is sufficient for full operation on up to 80 kilometres of non-electrified sections.
The units are designed for a track gauge of 1,435 mm and all cars are equipped with a driving bogie with two asynchronous motors and one conventional bogie. The bodies of the cars are made of aluminium profiles, with most of the traction equipment mounted on the roof.
The train is equipped with the state-of-the-art ETCS signalling system, automatic train control system ATO and also a system for remote transmission of diagnostic data.
