The railroad cars originated from vehicles manufactured in 1993-1994 (two prototype vehicles are from 1989). The first modernized railroad car was given to ČD in 2011. The main benefit of modernization is increased performance, reduced operating costs and the substutition of a new electronic procedure allowing ASC (automatic speed control) and ATO (automatic train operation). A new more powerful engine that complies with III A emission limits, and a multistage hydromechanical gearbox that provides better traction.
