Škoda trolleybus equipment returns to the Polish market

The city of Tychy has ordered trolleybuses with components from Škoda Group.

Škoda Group has been awarded a subcontract to supply electrical equipment for new Solaris trolleybuses for the Polish city of Tychy. Eighteen twelve-metre trolleybuses will be equipped with a complete traction drive, automatic collector, traction battery pack and modern diagnostics. In addition, the manufacturer will also take care of the complete installation of the vehicle drive and its testing. The project is funded by a European Union subsidy.

In 2025 and 2026, the trolleybus service in Tychy will grow by 18 new trolleybuses with a length of 12 metres. They will be delivered by Solaris Bus & Coach together with Škoda Group, which is supplying the electrical equipment and its installation and testing.

“We consider this cooperation to be very important as it is the return of the Škoda trolleybus equipment to the Polish market. We are building on many successful projects from the past and we hope that Škoda Group will be able to participate in the further development of green transport in Polish cities. We are happy that the reputation of our products and services is helping us to establish ourselves in new markets,” says Karel Majer, Chairman of the Board of Škoda Electric at Škoda Group.

Škoda Group is providing the complete traction equipment for the new trolleybuses, i.e. traction converter, auxiliary drive converter and traction motor. It is also supplying automatic pick-ups controlled from the driver’s seat, traction battery packs for autonomous drive, which will enable the vehicle to have a range of up to 20 km, as well as an advanced diagnostic system including remote access.
