Škoda Transportation Group and Ostrava transport company (Dopravní podnik Ostrava - DPO) have concluded an important contract for tram maintenance. The contract with a total volume of approximately CZK 500 million is divided into four parts according to the type of trams to be maintained. The work will be carried out in the Škoda Group's Ostrava plant, which focuses on the repair and production of rolling stock, between 2022 and 2026.

I am pleased that, thanks to the concluded contract, the trams that serve in Ostrava will also be repaired directly in the Moravian-Silesian capital. This long-term contract for the transport company is a very important project for us. The quality of work of the people from our Ostrava company will contribute to the growth of the level of travel by public transport and will extend the life of the repaired vehicles.

Miroslav Mareš, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Škoda Ekova

“The price of the contract reflects the increase in prices of industrial manufacturers over the last years. We are pleased that the Škoda Transportation Group confirmed its role as the paper favourite in this tender and won. The cooperation between our two companies can continue,” said Daniel Morys, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of DPO.

The maintenance of rolling stock is divided into 4 parts:

  • Part 1: Vario LFR tram type
  • Part 2: T3 RP tram type
  • Part 3: tram type LTM 10.08 ASTRA / 01 INEKON 2001 TRIO
  • Part 4: tram type Vario LF2R / Vario LF2+ / KT8D5.RN1 / Vario LF3/2 / Vario LF3

In addition to its focus on repairs and modernisation for transport companies, the traditional Ostrava-based company has expanded its competencies in recent years to produce new trams and other products for current and future customers of the Škoda Transportation Group. One of the key products of the projects is currently the production of new Škoda ForCity Smart trams designed specifically for the city of Ostrava. The first of a total of 35 units is already in service.

Škoda Transportation Group, a member of PPF Group, has been operating in the Moravian-Silesian Region for a long time. The company’s major enterprise is based in Ostrava and focuses primarily on the development and production of electrical units for customers at home and abroad. This base has recently undergone major modernisation and expansion, which included the construction of a new modern paint shop, the establishment of the largest gantry machining centre in Europe, and the installation of automatic welding machines. The investments have increased the company’s capacity to produce new trains by up to two-thirds compared to the past and created hundreds of new jobs.

The development centre for digitalisation and SMART technologies of the Škoda Transportation Group also operates in Ostrava. Technological know-how in the field of control, multimedia and diagnostic systems is concentrated here.
