Škoda Group powers one of the largest trolleybus projects in history, providing 112 trolleybuses for Genoa with traction equipment

Škoda Group will equip new trolleybuses for the Italian city of Genoa with complete traction equipment. It has been chosen as a key supplier by Solaris Bus & Coach, which will deliver a total of 112 articulated 18-metre trolleybuses to northern Italy. As part of this partnership, Škoda will not only manufacture the traction equipment, but also install the equipment on the vehicles and test them. This will take place first on the streets of Pilsen and then in Genoa. The complete trolleybuses will be delivered to Genoa in phases from September 2024 to the end of 2025. The project is funded by the Italian Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Genoa, a city with a rich history and a modern approach to sustainable urban mobility, will receive a fleet of 112 modern trolleybuses powered by advanced Škoda traction motors. The city’s residents will enjoy a clean and quiet mode of transport that will make travelling around the city more pleasant.

The traction equipment for the Genoa trolleybuses will include traction batteries with a capacity of 81 kWh, which will enable extensive operation of the vehicles off the catenary. The comprehensive package also includes automatic current collectors or advanced diagnostics. Installation of the traction equipment will take place directly at the Škoda Group’s production site in Pilsen-Doudlevce, where the trolleybuses will also be tested. Škoda will also carry out subsequent servicing of the equipment to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency.
