Bratislava Transport company signed a contract for trams with the Czech company Škoda

The Bratislava Transport Company and Škoda Transportation Group have signed contracts for the delivery of new Škoda ForCity Plus trams. The total number of new Škoda 29T trams is up to 30, which have been in service in Bratislava since 2015.
The trams will have the Bratislava track gauge of one metre. The delivery of the trams is scheduled for 2023. The value of the entire contract is almost €72 million. The price for a one-way tram is, therefore, €2.39 million. Škoda Transportation Group is part of the PPF Group.
Modern public transport, and especially rail transport, is an important aspect of the development of metropolises. I am very pleased that Bratislava has chosen us as a key partner for the modernisation of tram transport. This is all the more important for us because we have had significant successes in Slovakia recently, whether with new trains or trolleybuses. For almost 25 years of tram production, we have a wealth of experience in developing vehicles that every passenger can appreciate. I believe that the people of Bratislava will be happy to ride our new trams.
Tomáš Ignačák, Vice-Chairman of the Škoda Transportation Group
“Passengers will soon be transported by other modern trams that are already well known for operation. However, they will be equipped with new features that will take public transport travel to a higher level. At the transport company, we strive to make efficient use of all available external resources for the development of public transport. I am therefore glad that after new information boards and shelters at bus stops or trolleybuses, we will also renew the tram fleet through European funds, which will save the capital city’s financial resources,” said the Chairman of the Board of DPB a.s. Martin Rybanský, Chairman of DPB.
The new trams will significantly improve the quality of transport in the Slovak capital. In addition to many safety and comfort features, passengers can look forward to a Wi-Fi connection and USB sockets for charging small electronics. The trams will be equipped with energy-saving outdoor LED lighting and a camera system to ensure even greater safety.
Škoda trams have proved their worth in Bratislava
Trams from the Škoda Transportation group are already running in Bratislava. The transport company ordered them in July 2013 and the group delivered them in 2015 and 2016. In total, there are 60 vehicles, half of which are unidirectional (29T) and half bidirectional (30T). In total, these trams have already covered 22.5 million kilometres on the streets of the Slovak capital (that’s almost half the journey from Earth to Mars!).
