History of Škoda Pars

The history of Škoda Pars as we know it today began after World War II on 12 December 1947 with the laying of the plant’s foundation stone on 22 ha of the former Chiari farm.
On 1 June 1952, the partial operation of the new ČSD-Workshops began here. By 1960, the Šumperk company consisted of two plants: Šumperk Vehicle Repair Workshop and Česká Třebová Vehicle Repair Workshop. In 1973, the name of the company was changed to ŽOS (Railway Repair and Engineering Works) Šumperk.
The workshop in Šumperk was originally only intended for the repair of motorised rail vehicles. However, this decision was soon reconsidered and a prototype repair shop was established here, where motorised vehicles and locomotives of all kinds, electric locomotives of practically all series, various special vehicles for maintenance of the tracks, and many others, were repaired. During the first 15 years of the workshop’s operation, almost 8,000 different vehicles of fifty different series and types were repaired.
The year 1993 marked a new stage in the company’s history, as the railway repair and engineering works of the ČSD in Šumperk were privatised by Pars DMN s.r.o. Šumperk. During this period, the company’s management also decided to expand the company’s activities to repair other lines of railway vehicles and trams. On 1 August 2000, a joint-stock company with the new name Pars nova a.s. was established. In March 2008, Pars nova was incorporated into the Škoda Transportation Group. In April 2018, the Škoda Transportation Group was acquired by PPF Group.
