History

The beginning of rail vehicle production in Vagonka dates back to the early 20th century. At the time, entrepreneur Adolf Schustala established the joint-stock company “Staudinger Waggonfabrik A.G.” based in Butovice near Studénka.

The company was registered in the Commercial Register of the Regional Court in Nový Jičín on 12 December 1900 pursuant to the laws in force at that time, and it was thus officially founded.

Over its existence, the company has produced a large number of various vehicles for passenger and freight rail transport as well as other products, and over time it has undergone many product, organisational and ownership changes. These were highlighted by the arrival of a foreign owner to ČKD VAGONKA STUDÉNKA, a.s. and the separation of passenger rail vehicles from the production and business plans of this company.

The production of passenger rail vehicles was transferred to the new company ČKD VAGONKA, s.r.o., founded by ČKD PRAHA HOLDING, a.s. on 28 October 2000. On 1 January 2001, the company was transformed into a joint-stock company, and 3 months later it left Studénka and moved to the modernised facility in Ostrava.

Since January 2005, ČKD VAGONKA has been part of the Škoda Group; in March 2008, the company’s name was changed to ŠKODA VAGONKA a.s.
